Dear skaters,
Welcome to the introductory lesson to the
inline skating programme.
Lesson cost is $35 for 1 3/4 hours
payable in cash at the lesson. We'll continue with one hour classes ($20) the
following weeks.
Do your best to be at the tennis courts
by 12:20 and started gearing up, skates last. My intention is to start teaching
the class at precisely 12:30
I'm attaching the waiver which you have
to sign. If you can print it and sign it now it will save time at the
lesson. We'll actually start the lesson on the grass at the north side of the
courts where you'll feel safe on your wheels, and we'll review safety issues and
skating theory before heading onto the pavement..
I'll have skates & pads for those
who've requested them. Elbow/wrist/knee pads and helmet are required for the
lessons. No exceptions. If any one needs to rent any equipment you must
let me know in advance so I can bring them to then lesson venue.
Any questions not covered by
the blurb below may be found elsewhere on the web site: Click over on the on "General info"or "Beginner Programme" or "Pricing and Rentals
Location
The lesson is held on the tennis courts at the
south end of the West Toronto Collegiate complex. The courts are right beside
Lumbervale Avenue, a short street off Lansdowne just north of College Ave. There
is a blue marker there on this Google map just below the big oval
track:
There are no washrooms at the site. Arrive early,
gearing up is on your time.
Directions
By TTC you can take the subway to
the Lansdowne station (blue marker near top of map) then it's one long block
walk south along Lansdowne, (there is also a bus) past the school building to a
little street on your right called Lumbervale. You'll see the skating surface
inside the tall frost fence as you look down Lumbervale. There is also a TTC
street car along College or Dundas that has a stop at Lansdowne
close to the location. By car, there is parking along Lansdowne
and, better yet, on Lumbervale, but read the signs carefully. You can actually squeeze the car onto the schoolyard if Lumbervale is parked up.
Requirements
Bring along water, perhaps a snack and, of course,
a smile. Sunscreen is recommended in the warm season. You require all protective padding, (wrist elbow knee
pads) and a helmet. No exceptions! I can rent equipment or
loan a missing piece in a pinch. If you need skates, you will need to give me
your shoe size in advance so I can have your skates with me. If you are
renting a helmet from me, please bring a clean
kerchief to cover your head for sanitary purposes.
Please provide a phone number where you can be reached in case of change. I can
be reached at or just before lessons on the mobile at 647-238-4062, otherwise
416-531-7600.
If you have confirmed attendance at this lesson
and you are expected to attend. You are required to sign a waiver accepting full
responsibility for injuries you may suffer during the lessons and undertaking
not to make any claims against me. A copy is attached which you should print and
sign in advance to save time at the lesson. I'll have extras.
I reserve the
right to be paid for the lesson if you are a no-show or a last minute
cancellation. If you must cancel for a valid reason, please, please provide the
maximum advance notice.
Rain Policy: Showers usually means short duration and not too heavy. So I try to proceed. If forecast is for rain, my inclination is to cancel. This surface drains very well and can be dry shortly after a rain. If it is just cloudy, or even threatening, we definitely try to get the lesson in - and very often succeed. In case of uncertain conditions, I will post an email in the morning stating whether I intend to cancel or whether I will head to the location and hope for the best. You can call me at 416-531-7600, or at the venue, 647-238-4062. If it's pouring heavily with nothing bright on the horizon (just one of those days), you can assume the lesson is cancelled without any further communication.
